A solitary Christmas..

So, I’ve never had kids. Occasional boyfriends, yes. But for the last 25 years, mostly, Christmas has just been me. I’ve never wanted to intrude on anyone else’s family gathering, and I kind of have my own traditions…. a small batch of mince tarts, panforte, usually a Christmas tree (didn’t happen this year). But I keep it pretty low-key. I gave up on poinsettias because they die fast and then you get crumpled up leaves dancing like tumbleweeds around the house.

Eggnog, (homemade), a fire, a good book….

I don’t have to worry about shopping, cooking, baking…

Yes, sometimes there are twinges when I see others on FB with their families, of course.

But its been drummed into us so much that Holidays Are For Family that we forget that sometimes, holiday is for you too.

Ornaments and decorations you love. Taking care of yourself. Being at peace with yourself. Having your own traditions, even if you are a family of one.

Blessed Yule. Merry Christmas to all.
